Both occurrences are placed on the lips of Jesus, as are most of Mark’s scripture citations.8 At the inauguration of his mission Jesus announces, “The time is fulfilled” (Mark 1:15; πεπλήρωται ὁ καιρός). When he is arrested he says, “Day after day I was with you teaching and you did not arrest me. But in order that the scriptures might be fulfilled …” (Mark 14:49; πληρωθῶαιν αἱ γραφαί).
